At one point or another, we all struggle with mental health. Whether it’s simply stress, a more serious illness, or a tough point in our lives. Everyone struggles mentally, and during these times, it can be difficult to balance out school or work, and taking care of yourself. Because school still needs to get done, but you also need to adjust your activities to take care of yourself mentally so you don’t feel worse. So how do you balance your well-being with what needs doing?

According to a survey, one in five school students face stress, anxiety, depression, these may occur due to various factors like study related, exam related, relationship pressure, and can sometimes even be due to pressure from the parents. Nearly three-quarters of these mental conditions emerge as clinically diagnosed by age 19, but remain hidden inside one’s head.

School is exciting, but for many, balancing their mental health and academic chapter in life can pose a challenge. Academic / School life comes with a blank slate for new opportunities, self-discovery, responsibilities, and situations, some of which can be overwhelming at times. Your mental health is equally as important as your physical health.

Value yourself

Respecting yourself is very important to maintain positive mental health. Make time for yourself and your hobbies. Keeping yourself busy with hobbies will keep you busy and hence keeping your mood positive. School is a perfect time to broaden your horizons with new interests, take part in cultural and extracurricular activities and spend time away from the negative vibes.

Take care of your body

Now, physical health is directly proportional to mental health. Taking care of your physical self can improve your mental health. Eat nutritious meals and drink plenty of water. Regular physical activating can help decrease depression and anxiety and improve your moods. Also, get a good amount of sleep, because lack of sleep can contribute to a high rate of depression.

Learn how to manage stress

Managing stress can help you mentally and physically. Find a coping skill that works for you; it may be exercising, taking a walk, playing an instrument, or even journaling. Research shows that laughter can boost your immune system, ease pain, and reduce anxiety and stress, so don’t forget to laugh!

Practice quiet time

Making time for mindfulness, meditation, or practicing relaxation exercises have shown some remarkable results when it comes to improving the state of mind. Studies have shown that even 10 minutes of meditation can provide a sense of calm and enhance the state of mind. So we would suggest taking out 10 minutes, get a quiet time.

Set realistic goals

When in school, you want to succeed academically and personally. So when setting goals, be realistic and do not over-schedule because non-realistic goals means unnecessary pressure and stress. We don’t want that! Instead let us set realistic goals and targets and take it step by step, result? you will enjoy a stronger sense of self-worth and accomplishment as you make positive progress.

Get help when you need it

Having said that, sometimes despite all the efforts things go haywire, Trust Us, it’s perfectly alright. If you feel that you do have an issue, get help. Asking someone for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Seek appropriate care and help, be it anyone, friends, family, or even a doctor, because it’ll help you combat your stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues!

School is an exciting place to be, but at times it can be overwhelming. It is important to know that you never should suffer alone. The most important thing here is to be kind to yourself though.

You can’t control everything. The one thing you can control is your relationship with yourself. It can be easy to think negatively… But you’re a valuable person in this world who deserves your own love. That shouldn’t be dependent on how successful you are in school or otherwise.
