How to revise effectively for your upcoming exam.
Step 1: PLAN PLAN PLAN!
Often, we make timetables and don’t follow them! Making one is easy but following one is hard AF.
Therefore, try and make a timetable that is more feasible to follow and not more exhausting than your current study. Plan a schedule that has balanced time for both rest and studies and also includes adequate time for your other day-to-day activities. Do trial and error in your timetable and make changes according to your flexibility for a week. Hence, after a week you’ll get a clear idea of reality v/s your daily schedule. After this, you’re all set to go for an effective study period before your examination.
Step 2: Choose your method for revision
Different students use different methods for revising their syllabus. Choose whichever suits best for you. Some of these are:
- Self-explanation i.e., explain yourself topics and try and remember them in your own terms
- Try teaching someone else or pretend that you’re teaching someone
- Make use of flashcards or hand-written notes of each and every topic
- Create mind maps, diagrams, and tables for better understanding
- Practice along with recorded lectures
- Making a summary of topics
Step 3: Plan your day around the most productive things
As soon as you start studying, divide your day into small chunks so it gets easier and less lethargic for you to cover a wider portion of your syllabus. Look into your plan and equally distribute time for each and every subject. Try revising according to the weightage of the topic in the examination. Moreover, giving more time to topics with less weight will waste our time and at this moment we need to study in a smart manner.
Step 4: Repeat Repeat Repeat
Now is the time to revise and start answering practice questions. But we need to remember that practice questions will not give us an actual hang of the examination. So now we need to move forward and start appearing for mock tests and look forward to practicing more and more previous year question papers. By giving mocks and analyzing it will help us to understand where and how much to work upon a topic and previous year question papers will give us a clear idea about the paper pattern helps us understand important parts of the syllabus and also helps us to drop out similar questions for each and every one.
The last and the best part;
Step 5: Taking breaks
Taking breaks in between your study session will freshen up your mind and will help you concentrate on the next one. And what better than taking a study nap in between but then it shouldn’t be like planning to sleep for 30 mins and wake up after 3hrs! Even if that happens with you, it’s fine don’t loosen your spirit and work even harder to cover the lost time. And don’t forget to even enjoy your breaks watching some fun movies, standups, or your favorite drama on Netflix.
