Now, that we all are well versed in what is public speaking and why is important, we are ready to move to the next phase. That is mastering the art of public speaking.

If you want to know more about public speaking in general, make sure you check out the previous blog. Give it a quick read and then drop in here.

Talking about public speaking, there are more important points than your speech which are often ignored and must be kept in mind. But do not worry we have got all those covered here.

Body Language

First of all, stop dripping down on your chair like a sloth and sit upright. Caught you, didn’t we? See, students often ignore how important your body language is in defining your character.

When you go to school the next morning, try to walk with your chin up, back straight, and with confidence. No, not like a bodybuilder, but with more confidence. You will notice the difference in your mood yourself.

Similarly, when it comes to public speaking, you can attract your audience’s attention through your body language. The first trick would be to stand straight, not stiff but straight. Always keep your hands in front and near the waist level, not too high and not too low.

A smile can do wonders for you. It would make you look happy and content while sharing what you have in store for the audience. Use hand gestures only if necessary and try to keep them limited.

Verbal Ability

As obvious as it sounds, this is one of the most important things to take care of, when going for public speaking. Set your tone and pitch as per the size of the audience and the room. If you have a mic in front of you, do not be too loud or too soft, and stand a few feet away from the same.

Try to make it sound like a conversation. If there are certain instances or punctuations in your speech that can be said in a better manner do that. See, no one wants to listen to an audio recorder on the stage or in front of the class.

So engage the audience with appropriate speech. Also, try to interact with the audience. If you can, try to put in questions between your speaking or after the same so that you know whether the audience is listening.

Be Prepared

As if this is anything to tell about. There is no point in public speaking if you are not prepared for what you have to speak on. Practice a few of these tips, listed down for you.

Know your audience. Understanding your audience will help you prepare your content. If the topic on which you have to speak on is known to the audience then technical terms can be used and if not then vice versa.

Practice beforehand. Practicing in front of a mirror can be a subtle trick to boost confidence and memorize what you have to say. If you get the chance try and practice at the venue before the main event.

Always carry a water bottle with you. This way if you forget something, you can pause to drink some. Which would make it look natural and not like you have forgotten something.

Conclusion

The above-written tips can sound monotonous and too much also. But try to understand that public speaking will eventually be a crucial part of your life.

So practicing the above skills is all the better for you and we cannot recommend it enough. Once you do master these tricks, it will be easy for you!
