The Importance of Participation
Hey, what is wrong with your face, ran a race or something? Oh, so your class just got over, so what is with bullets of sweat running down your face? Students were taking turns in reading and your turn was about to come but got saved by the bell. Dude, relax would ya?
Ever found yourself in a similar situation? Most probably you have, but what do you do about it? Well, the fact is that you can escape such situations once or twice, but not every time the ball would be in your court.
We understand when it comes to talking about participation, a lot of students tend to fiddle around the same. Is it that they do not want to participate, or any other hidden reason? Generally, it shortens down to anxiety and crowd fear.
Why should you participate?
If you agree with the instance mentioned above, you are not new to participation and what it means. So, instead of stressing about that let us throw some light on why you should participate.
The first question’s answer is simple. Participating in something from the get-go will boost your confidence. You do not necessarily require national-level participation to gain confidence. It could be as simple as answering a question in your class.
The more you would participate, the more you will learn about yourself. About your interests and what are you good at. It is all the better for you to have this knowledge as it can help you develop your newly recognized skill or talent, for your benefit.
This will also help you be in a positive light in front of your teachers. Books and studies are fine, we get it. But in the long run, your personality is something that will help a lot, and having confidence would go a long way for you.
How much should you participate?
Just like excess of everything is not good, similar is the case here. You must be clear in your mind, as to what is the reason for which you are participating in anything. Whether it is a competition, something in sports, or any other activity.
Now initially you want to participate to beat your fear, get comfortable facing an audience, and all the beginner stuff. But once you get the hang of it, you start participating to gain experience and excel in that particular field that excites you.
But do not just throw yourself at everything. Firstly, because you have studies to take care of as well. Secondly, know that kid from your class who just feels like he is everywhere all the time. Seems annoying, doesn’t it? It is, and trust us you do not want to be that kid.
Get over it!
We are about to say the best thing to you, to help you get over your fear of participation. The place where you are at, as in school right now, is undoubtedly the best place to experiment with yourself. You are in a protected environment where you can beat your fears.
Out in the real world, it is vicious, but here EH! At the most, a few students will laugh at you or make fun of you. But those would probably be the kids sitting in the audience while you would be up there on the field/stage doing your thing. You know you are ahead of them.
Another thing is to have faith in yourself. Trust yourself, and understand that you are still learning. You are not an expert yet and even experts learn daily. You do not have to be better than the others. You just have to be better than what you were yesterday.
